Neo Garden - Good caterer for parties or events!

I've a few encounters with food from Neo Garden. We used it for our co events. When my sis was planning her 21st birthday bash, it was one of the first caterers that came to mind.

Like most of the catering services, the menus and prices are all  nicely displayed on website. The service after the online order was rather thorough and commendable. One could feel completely at ease!

I was pleased when they offered the flexibility to have two staples instead of only having rice as we had above 40 pax.

In terms of budgeting, it is best to order  for a number close to the number of guests you're expecting. Some caterers may give you 1.5 to 2 times of food for each person you cater for. But this doesn't apply for Neo Garden.

The most important aspect is probably the quality of food. Guests kept going to my sis to say that the food is really good! I like the black pepper chicken best!

Professor Brawn Café - More than a cafe!

If you happen to frequent Novena Square, you may have walked passed Professor Brawn Café. It is a small and neat cafe with a great ambition.

Why the name Professor Brawn?

The extract on the website says it all:

“Professor Brawn is a superhero character who is 'smart, kind and strong'. Created by a child with a learning disability, he became the catalyst to start a social enterprise based on the values of quality, dignity and inclusiveness.

The founders are parents and friends who want to make a difference to the special needs community and others who need a leg up in society. Their dream is to provide opportunities for jobs, showcase of special talents and to raise awareness and contributions by supporters of the cause.

Professor Brawn Café is the team’s first foray into the Food and Beverage business. Our mission is to provide affordable good food by an inclusive quality workforce comprising people of different abilities, ages and socio-economic background.”

Went with two other friends because we wanted to skip the queue at Lao Beijing. We were quite pleasantly surprised! The cafe projects a cosy feel. From where we sat, we had a good view of how the chef goes about preparing the food items. As we were settling in at the cafe, we began to absorb the deco of the cafe. And we started to understand its ambition a lil more.

The items are priced modestly for a cafe. The presentation of the food items were attractive. Food items are served fresh from the oven. Having piping hot food is something I really appreciate. It is a shame to eat lukewarm items at some other establishments.

For starters, we had chicken salad and the soup for our set meals. It is not the typical soup with garlic bread. The bread served is soft and warm. I felt that the intricate bits of the dining experience were taken care of and it was a delight.

The portions were rather decent. And it was a satisfying meal. Each pax paid about SGD10 - 15. Would definitely revisit this place again.

Support the cause today. :)

Borgata - Italian fare at Clarke Quay

Borgata is an Italian restaurant located at a corner of Clarke Quay. If you like to experience the hustle and bustle of Clarke Quay it may just be great to take the al fresco area. On the other hand, you may want to ask for seats in the restaurant if you like a quieter environment to talk.
The lighting coupled with the music provides a relaxing environment right away.

Our healthy starter:

The calamari was rather unique. As it was the first few dishes, it kind of raised our expectation for the others to come. It just keeps getting better!

The items were served right from the oven. The thin crust pizza was quite light. As you are eating it,you get to taste the ingredients rather than being bogged down by the dough.

As you attempt the grilled chicken, you can't miss the tinge of herbs. The portion was really huge and it was a relief that we were sharing the food.
